So far this has worked out really well in transferring my old VHS tapes to my MacbookPro. From there I'm able to edit them in iMovie or you can just do a straight transfer to DVD. It's nice to have more control over content as opposed to a stand alone VCR/DVD recorder combo unit.

From setup to operation, this product worked like it needed to. They provided every cable you could possibly need including a pigtail for the USB which is really handy when you are using a laptop like I do. Very happy with this easy to use transfer program.

This is so easy to use and I think that all the updates you download once you install it fix most of the issues people are talking about. I almost didn't buy this product because of the reviews it was getting but i'm glad that I did. Works great and is cheaper then the program they sell at the Apple Store.

Roxio had to do a quick update (1.0.2) to get this product working properly but once they did I downloaded all of my Video-8 and VHS movies into iMovie for editing. I have over 30 hours of video and had to purchase a 1TB external hard drive in order to store it all but it was well worth the investment in order to save all of my old analog movies.

It sounds like the largest issue people experience with this product is the dropped frames problem. It looks like Roxio has recently (July 2009) released an update (v1.0.3) to address this.

If Roxio fixed the dropped frame issue then it looks like their product (with it's native 768x480 video size) has the advantage over Elgato Video Capture (which scales the resulting video down to 640x480).
The only other difference I see is that Roxio converts to MPEG2 whereas Elgato converts to H.264. As long as you have the ability to manipulate MPEG2 then there is a clear winner.
